Requirements:

Requirements for Degree Undergraduate Students

All students must sit for an Arabic Language Placement exam during their freshman year unless they have submitted a Thanawiyya Amma certificate or its equivalent before the date of the last placement exam for any given academic year. Based on the placement exam score, students will either be exempted from required Arabic Language courses or be required to take one or two sequenced courses in Modern Standard Arabic to meet the University’s Arabic-language requirement for their bachelor’s degree. Students exempted from Arabic may still opt to register in elective Arabic courses.

Students required to sit for the Arabic language placement exam:

All non-Thanawiya Amma students are required to sit for the Arabic language placement exam, which is only administered by the AUC Department of Arabic Language Instruction to determine their Arabic language level. Based on the result of the Arabic language placement exam, students will fall into one of the following categories:

  1. Exempted from Arabic language courses
  2. Required to take one Arabic language course (3 credits)
  3. Required to take two Arabic language courses (6 credits)

Students exempted from the Arabic language placement exam and Arabic language courses:

  1. Thanawiya Amma holders or equivalent
  2. Non-Thanawiya Amma holders who have passed the Arabic test administered by the Egyptian Ministry of Education prior to enrolling at AUC
  3. Holders of the IGCSE/GCSE degrees who have also achieved a minimum grade of C in the IGCSE’s Arabic as a First Language exam

Provisional Admission

AUC considers the most academically qualified applicants for provisional admission during the spring for the following fall semester if they earned excellent grades or submitted documents of the below requirements prior to the set deadline. Final admission and category of acceptance will be given after submitting your final transcript and proof of graduation.

Having the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee you a place, but rather ensures entry to the selection process. The minimum admission scores for each certificate may change from one year to another according to AUC requirements.

  • IGCSE/GCSE/GCE: complete at least eight subjects; preference is given to applicants who complete subjects at the advanced level as well as a complete file including the English proficiency exam results.
  • For School of Science and Engineering-Engineering: Completion of four O-level science courses (mathematics, physics, chemistry and a fourth science or information technology course), plus either two AS-level science courses (mathematics and physics or chemistry) or an advanced-level mathematics course, is required to qualify for admission. A minimum grade of B in no more than two of these courses is accepted, provided that they are not both in mathematics courses.
  • For School of Science and Engineering-Actuarial Science: Completion of O-level and advanced-level mathematics courses is required to qualify for admission. A minimum grade of B in each is also required
  • For School of Science and Engineering-Biology: Completion of two AS-level science courses, including biology, or an advanced level biology course is required to qualify for admission. A minimum grade of B is accepted in any of these courses.
  • For School of Science and Engineering-Chemistry: Completion of four O-level science courses (mathematics, physics, chemistry and a fourth science or information technology course), plus either two AS-level science courses (chemistry and mathematics or physics) or an advanced-level chemistry course, is required to qualify for admission. A minimum overall average grade of B in these courses is accepted.
  • For School of Science and Engineering-Computer Science: Completion of four O-level science courses (mathematics, physics and two other science or information technology courses), plus either two AS-level science courses (mathematics and physics) or an advanced-level mathematics course, is required to qualify for admission. A minimum overall score of 80% and a minimum score of 80% per subject are also required
  • For School of Science and Engineering-Mathematics: Completion of three O-level science courses (mathematics and two other science or information technology courses), plus either AS-level mathematics or an advanced-level mathematics course, is required to qualify for admission. A minimum grade of B in two of these courses is accepted, provided that they are not both in mathematics courses.
  • For School of Science and Engineering-Physics:Completion of two O-level science courses (mathematics and physics), plus an AS-level course in mathematics, is required to qualify for admission.
  • Admission of IGCSE applicants who have completed less than 12 years of schooling is not guaranteed and is subject to University approval and available slots. The following documents are needed as proof of 12 years of pre-university enrollment.
  • Applicants who have completed 12 years of schooling in an international system are required to submit grade one final report in addition to year by year proof of enrollment (primary to secondary).
  • Applicants who have completed six years after ibtedaya or three years after idadiya are required to submit a copy of the front and backside of the certificate (ibtdaya or idadiya) and ensure that the academic year is clearly printed on the document. • AUC requires eight GCE, GCSE, or IGCSE subjects for admission consideration. However, applicants must submit all certificates, as well as their candidate number, to ensure that the University calculates eligibility using the highest eight scores. Only copies with a fresh stamp (from schools or British council) are considered as official documents.
  • AUC does not accept OL Arabic (as a second language) as one of the eight subjects.
  • Preference is given to students who have completed advanced or advanced subsidiary level subjects and have excellent grades.
  • AUC accepts a minimum grade of C to satisfy the eight subject requirement at the ordinary or advanced subsidiary level, and a minimum grade of D at the advanced level.
  • AUC considers the highest grade in subjects completed more than once.
  • AUC counts the higher grade in the same subjects completed at both advanced and advanced subsidiary levels.
