For students who want to learn French/German as a foreign language and gain the ability to communicate effectively. By linking various skills such as listening, reading, speaking, and writing, students will be able to progress smoothly during their studies. The syllabus is also designed to offer insights in the culture and civilization of countries that speak the language in hopes of encouraging the positive attitude towards learning more foreign languages and towards speakers of these languages.
Candidates are expected to sit for four papers: Paper 1, 2, 3, and 4, each component is worth 25% of the total grade. Paper 1 is the listening component, where candidates listen to a number of recordings and answer questions that test their comprehension skills. Paper 2 is the reading component, where candidates read a number of texts and answer questions that also test comprehension. Paper 3 is the speaking component where candidates are asked to complete two role plays, a topic conversation and a general conversation. The last component is the writing component where candidates are asked to finish three writing tasks.
Candidates are able to sit for these exams during June and November examination sessions.
